Have you ever experienced one of those moments when you knew that God had a message especially for you? I had such a moment recently. I had been burdened about a situation for quite some time and had been fervently praying about it. However, I was not seeing any changes. I was beginning to wonder if God was going to answer my prayer, or if He even heard it. Even though I knew in my heart that God always hears our prayers, I needed some encouragement.
One evening, I was driving to pick up something for our ministry. I was feeling particularly discouraged and began to think about this burden again. I was talking to God and telling Him how I felt. I asked Him to please intervene in this situation. I was nearing an intersection and I happened to glance over at one of our local churches. On their sign, in big letters, I read these words: "GOD IS STILL WORKING."
Immediately, I felt a wave of peace and comfort wash over me. I knew without a doubt that God had placed that message on that sign for me to see at that particular moment. He was assuring me that He had not forgotten about my burden. He was still at work in the situation, even though I could not see it.
Perhaps you are in a similar situation. Maybe you have been praying about something for a long time and you are not seeing any results. You may be tempted to give up or to think that God doesn't care. But I want to encourage you today with the same message that encouraged me: God is still working.
In Mark 9:24, there is a father who brought his son to Jesus. The boy had been afflicted with an evil spirit since childhood, and the father desperately wanted his son to be healed. He said to Jesus:
"Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief." Mark 9:24
This father had faith, but he was also struggling with doubt. He was honest with Jesus about his struggle. And Jesus honored his faith by healing his son.
Maybe your faith is being tested right now. Maybe you are struggling with doubt, just like this father. It's okay to be honest with God about your doubts and fears. He already knows what is in your heart. But don't give up. Keep praying. Keep believing. Keep trusting.
Remember that God understands your need, He hears your prayer, and most of all, He is still working! Ponder that!
